From time to time our school offers courses in addition to our normal training program. The most common is the 12-step Yang Style Tai Chi course, however we also offer various weapon, joint locking and self defense course.

Kids in Kung fu™: Proper training in Kung fu has enormous potential benefits for children such as, respect, self-control, self-esteem, and discipline. Children will learn physical conditioning, basics of the Dragon style of Kung fu, forms, partner training, lots of equipment training, and self-defense skills against punches and kicks. This course prepares the student for the first rank level of Ie Kup! You can learn right along with your Child! We have an established parent’s class on Saturdays. It’s a great way to bond with your children!
Safe and Secure™: Safe and Secure is a self-defense program for children grade K-6. This course teaches how to identify and avoid problem situations that children face. It uses simple and effective Kung fu basics, strikes, kicks, and blocks. It also offers separate age appropriate classes, lots of equipment training, physical and mental awareness skills, how to deal with bullies, the safety zones, and conflict resolution.
Legal Implications of Self-Defense™: Assault, Battery, or Assault and Battery? What is a Preemptive Strike? How about Great Bodily Harm? Can a martial artist hands and feet be considered a deadly weapon? This course defines the terms that a martial artist needs to know as it relates to self-defense, what are your rights to self-defense? This course will give you the answers.
Street Wise™: Street Wise is a self-defense program for men and women. This course teaches effective street ready self-defense skills not the sport and flash type techniques common in today’s martial arts schools. This course centers in on self-defense skills for strikes and kicks, grabbing defenses, knife and gun defenses and multiple opponents.
Chin Na™: Chin Na means “seize control” This course is a more detailed self-defense program against grabbing. Effective self-defense skills against grabs on the wrist, lapel, upper body and defense techniques from the back will be covered.
Knife Defense™: Using the concepts of Chin Na, this course teaches you how to deal with a knife attack. Realistic street ready skills are shown centering in on straight line, circular attacks, knife defense skills from the back and combination skills involving grabs and knife attacks.
Gun Defense™: Using the concepts of Chin Na, this course teaches effective skills against an armed assault using guns. Techniques covered will center in on skills for frontal, side, and back defenses. Also covered is the basic understanding of loading and unloading a gun, the safety, and the anatomy of the revolver and semi automatic.
Multiple Opponent Defense™: This course covers techniques and strategies involving attacks from multiple opponents. Using the Clock Principal, students will learn to use angles to counter straight line attacks and straight lines to counter angular attacks, the Action versus Reaction Principal, and the Kong Men Principal.
Break falls and Ground Defense™: Learning how to fall properly with out hurting your self is critical to street defense, Break falls teaches you how to fall and roll properly. Ground Defense teaches you how to protect yourself if your opponent has taken you to the ground. This course teaches you how to protect yourself if the opponent is in the mount position.
Internal Arts Division®: The Internal Arts Division of the Shaolin Kung fu Institute was formed to handle the areas of the Internal Martial Arts such as Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kung, Chan Zen Meditation, Herbal Medicine, and the Chinese Medical System. The Internal Arts Division issues all Certifications in the courses listed below.
Yang Style Tai Chi™: This course covers the history, forms, and push hands training of the Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan. This course taught in sections covers the 12 Step Form, 28 Step Form, 78 Step Form, Tai Chi Sword, and Push Hands.
Wu Style Tai Chi™: Unlike other styles of Tai chi, Wu style Tai Chi is the martial artists Tai Chi. Wu style Tai Chi complements all styles of Kung fu and does not interfere with the style of Kung fu the practitioner practices. This course centers in on the 83 Step Form of the Northern Wu style of Tai Chi.
Chi Kung™: Chi Kung means air, breath, or energy training. These exercises are usually combined with Tai chi training but unlike Tai Chi these exercises are performed with out stepping. This course centers in on the Chi Kung exercises of the Pa Tuan Chin Chi Kung, and are excellent exercises for relaxation and calm mind meditation training.
