The Shaolin Kung fu Institute provides classes with benefits beyond what many martial arts schools offer.

Our small classes provide personal attention for all students.  Our staff is trained to recognize that all students are different.  We observe all students for their strengths and difficulties, and then take the time to help students through areas which are difficult for them, while also encouraging them to excel where they are skilled.

We believe that all students can achieve a high ranking if they are serious minded and motivated.  Some traditional schools hold to old world ideas such as not allowing women to perform certain aspects of tradition and ceremony.  Our school always considered all students to be capable of all aspects of our system and we have helped break down such notions in the Kung fu community.

Adults

Our adult classes are for all people above the age of 13.  Standard classes are twice a week for an hour and a half each.  Classes always start with conditioning, in which we take time to properly stretch and perform calisthenics.  The rest of the class will divide between basics training and forms.  Alternatively we may offer other courses during class time.

Children

Our children’s program is different than many schools.  Martial arts schools sometimes treat children’s training with less importance than adult training.  We do not teach a “watered down” class to children.  However, our physical conditioning is reduced for children as it is not always healthy for them to be engaged in intense workouts.  We also reserve some of the more complicated techniques for later in their training.

Our Staff enjoys keeping children focused and helping them learn self-discipline.  The patience and detailed instruction required when working with children is considered an essential part of our Instructional Staff Training Program.

Our advanced children’s class learns about the muscle groups and bones, and sometimes aspects of Chinese history and tradition.  This can be an excellent supplement to what they learn in school, and sometimes this keeps children who are easily bored, interested in continuing.

 Parents

Our parents program is very successful.  We teach parents in a separate room, but at the same time slot as their children.  In addition to learning our standard adult program, we take the time to explain to them the differences in what their children learn, so that they can work together when not at the school.  Many parents have reported that this leads to quality time together at home!
